Our arrival on October 1st came with exactly what we expected—very hot weather. Coming from a humid climate to a dry, arid desert definitely takes some adjustment. While the temperatures were high, we enjoyed the sunny skies and Yuma’s beautiful desert scenery. Arriving this early also had its advantages, including much lighter traffic compared to the busy high season from December through March.

We quickly settled into our beautiful lot in the Foothills of Yuma, Arizona. The desert landscape, large fenced lot, and partial outdoor casita—used daily—are big pluses for us. Bill loves BBQing and using the smoker outside, which essentially gives us an additional outdoor kitchen. We move our chairs around and enjoy watching TV outside on our RV setup.

We both enjoy attending local farmers markets and participating as vendors with Divine Treats. Liz especially enjoys making peanut and cashew brittle and is grateful to have many repeat customers from last year. The dry desert climate is ideal for making this type of candy. In addition to brittle, she also makes fudge, toffee, and Christmas-time cookies. The cashew brittle has been a huge hit, and demand has been so strong that we find ourselves ordering multiple bulk boxes of cashews each month to keep up.
A week before we planned to leave Yuma, everything changed with Shale(our female almost 10yrs old)She suddenly wouldn’t eat or drink, and the severe diarrhea had us terrified. By late Saturday afternoon, we knew we couldn’t wait-we rushed her to an emergency hospital in Yuma.
They took her from us right away, placing her on a gurney and bringing her inside. Watching her go through those doors were a hard moment where we felt hopless.
After X-rays and blood work we got the  diagnosis:pancreatitis. She was admitted to the ICU for two nights. Leaving her there was very hard. The RV-felt empty with out her and Shadow her brother looked lost.
The next couple of weeks were filled with worry and constant attention. We watched every drop of water she drank, every small bite of ground up food she managed to eat. She has weaned off chicken and turkey and broth baby food. It was slow and emotional but we were just grateful to see her gradually getting stronger. She currently is now the Shale we know and love!
It took a long time to write these updates as we both have been busy onsidering retired but enjoyed our winter again in Arizona. We look forward to heading to Wisconsin in June to see family and friends andJuly in our old location of Bismarck ND.

We departed on May 1st from our winter home in Yuma, Arizona, beginning our journey eastward. Our route took us through the scenic landscapes of Arizona, New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle, Missouri, and Illinois, before arriving at our summer residence in Shipshewana, Indiana on May 22, 2025.

Shipshewana has long been one of our favorite small towns. It’s a charming and popular tourist destination known for its rich Amish culture, unique shops, and one-of-a-kind attractions. Surrounded by peaceful Amish farms, the town offers an authentic glimpse into a simpler way of life. To us, it has a vibe similar to Branson, with live entertainment, musical performances, and shows at the Blue Gate Theatre adding to its appeal.

On May 31st, we made the 6½-hour drive to Montello, Wisconsin, to celebrate a very special occasion—our triplet granddaughters’ high school graduation. It was a heartwarming gathering filled with family and relatives, including many we hadn’t seen in years.

Later, we had the chance to connect even more meaningfully through a live YouTube stream with our son Kerry, daughter Holly, granddaughter Emma, Bill, and myself. Together, we shared our journeys and challenges with the Carnivore lifestyle—each of us offering our unique perspectives and experiences.

Divine Treats: A Sweet Journey

Since retiring, I found myself missing the joy and purpose that work brings. That’s when Divine Treats was born. I’ve always loved making Peanut Brittle, and after years of family and friends raving about it, I decided to share it with others as a small vendor in Arizona.

Last year, we visited Shipshewana, Indiana, and discovered the largest outdoor market in the Midwest, home to nearly 700 vendors. We were instantly drawn to the energy, charm, and friendly faces—and this year, we proudly joined the market ourselves!

It’s been a joy meeting so many wonderful people from all over the country, and connecting with fellow vendors has been such a blessing. I’m currently the only vendor offering a unique selection of handmade brittles: Peanut, Cashew, Peanut Coconut, and Cashew Coconut Brittle, along with a variety of cookies and candies.

What surprises many customers is that I make all these sweet treats inside our RV motorhome! Even more surprising—people often ask how I stay in shape while working with sugar all day. I always smile and explain: I love making brittle, but I don’t eat it. Since retiring, I’ve committed to a healthier lifestyle and enjoying the Carnivore way of living. Now our labs Shale and Shadow are also full Carnivore. Their behavior and personality was like when they were puppies.

Being in Shipshewana has also given me a deep appreciation for the local Amish community. One of my favorite places is E & S Bulk Foods, where you can find quality meats—cut just the way you like—and park your car or even your horse and buggy. The simplicity and kindness here are truly special.

One of the highlights of my time here was being invited into the home of a young Amish woman. I had admired the beautiful dress she had sewn herself and mentioned I was thinking about getting a sewing machine. She graciously invited me over to see hers, and I ended up purchasing a Singer sewing machine in perfect condition—still in the box with the instructions!

This journey with Divine Treats has been more than just selling candy—it’s been about community, connection, and a renewed sense of purpose. I’m so thankful for every customer who returns for more brittle, every new friendship made, and every unexpected moment that continues to sweeten this chapter of my life.

This year flew by and hard to believe it is now 2025. We have had a good last twelve months with a few motorhome issues not different if living in a house. Our house is just on wheels. Thank goodness Bill knows how to fix almost everything from diesel issues, electrical, plumbing, and almost anything. Diesel engines have a lot of upkeep.

After leaving Wisconsin late summer we headed north to Upper Michigan and experienced Mackinac Island. After weeks in that location we headed south and ended up in Shipshewana Indiania. This is now on the top of our list of favorite destinations. This location showcases the history of Amish and Mennonite peoples. This is the location of the Midwest’s largest Flea Market with over 700 vendors. As I started vending with the Peanut Brittle we named our small business Divine Treats. We will be spending Summer is Shipshewana and two days a week selling our Peanut and Cashew Brittle.

We had a terrible mishap with our car that it was not worth fixing as it cost more than the value of the vehicle. We love our new to us 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz. Its like half car half truck. We have never got so many comments from strangers how they love that vehicle.

We also are coming up with our two year anniversary on the Carnivore way of eating. Bill kept his 45 lbs off and me the 35lbs off. Not just weight loss but our past medications-blood pressure, statins and so many others are past medications we no longer take. We are dedicated to have best health possible and we love to feel full of energy and no more brain fog.

I started off last winter in Arizona asked by others to sell Peanut Brittle. I have been making this candy for decades. Now I added Cashew Brittle and being a vendor here in Yuma it not only keeps me busy, but I enjoy the markets and other vendors. Now word is out and two to three times a week I am working either inside a building or under our canopy and banner. Divine Treats is becoming a name here in Yuma. Being on a ketogenic/Carnivore diet this is not hard making a sugar treat as I make it and not eat it. The outdoor markets we both work the booth as it takes quite a long time to set up and Bill is awesome with customers.

We made it to Wisconsin in July- 1 1/2 months prior we were in sunny and the dry desert of Yuma Arizona and now a very humid rainy month. Since coming to WI  about 60% of the time it was cloudy, raining and humid. We sure miss the dry climate. Our first stop was in Mukwonago and met family and friends. A drive to Rockford to see Melissa and Paul and their church was an awesome Sunday.  In Mukwonago we had nice visits from Melissa and Paul, Marge and Tammy, and a long good friend Mary and husband Tim. Also visited other friends in the area

The get together at Kerry and Jen’s home for 4th of July was nice but went by too fast. It was over a year since we were back in Wisconsin. We both did a livestream Carnivore on Youtube being interviewed by Kerry.

We continued north to the Oshkosh area and enjoyed meeting friends from our old church in Appleton. We took a nice drive to Jackson to see a nephew and wife. We continued north to Marinette. From there we went to Northern Michigan to Manistique.

Bill had another dentist appointment last week. The weather was simply beautiful for his 8 AM appointment in the cute border town of Los Algodones which is located in the municipality of Mexicali, Baja California. We have been visiting this tourist border town for about eight years. Los Algodones is worldwide known as Molar City with more than 350 local dentists that offer great quality services with very low costs compared to the U.S. We have been in Yuma, AZ for over five months and Los Algodones is only a twenty-three mile drive from our RV Resort.

Sovenir shops are located in the downtown and through halls and different stores we found many assorted items. It is fun to barter and we got incredible prices. Before we started our Carnivore way of eating we visited many restaurants in Los Algodones. The Mexican food is fabulous and many foreigners are seen sitting in the outdoor restaurants. Music, food, and many vendors on every corner.

Our last couple of months went by very fast. We first stopped in Kingman Arizona for one month hoping to get warmer weather. We enjoyed the Route 66 Museum there and the nice RV Park we stayed at before departing to Las Vegas for my sister Barbara’s 80th birthday. We enjoyed that evening with family and friends celebrating her birthday. We spent three nights in Las Vegas then headed to the biggest boon docking area in the United States-Quartsite Arizona. Thousands and thousands of RV’s all along BLM land. We never dry camped for more than one day so we thought we would give it a try. With no electricity or water hookup we lasted one week. The sunsets were spectacular in Quartsite. We went through a lot of diesel using our generator to watch TV and our Starlink worked great.

After Quartsite we went to a nice small RV Resort Shangri La in Yuma. We are currently in Yuma at Del Pueblo RV Resort. A fantastic and beautiful place we love. We are staying for 3 months and plan on coming back next year. Many activities and very friendly people. The weather here now in February is simply perfect. We unpacked summer clothes, shorts and sandals. Temperatures are in the mid to upper 70’s and sunny every day. Yuma is considered the sunniest city in the US.

We are taking advantage of this area as we are very familiar with it. Between border town Los Algodones Mexico for dental and fun shopping we now went to another border town of San Luis Mexico where our Shadow had his TPLO (ACL)  surgery at an excellent Vet Clinic. So many foreigners like us bring their pets to this clinic/hospital. The cost is 2/3 less than the US and Shadow has an excellent Orthepedic Surgeon. I believe the surgery is the easy part but the post op has been very difficult. We look forward to seeing our old Shadow again.

Three days after Shadow had surgery I had cataract surgery on one eye and next week I have surgery on the other eye. I am also enjoying all the Craft Fairs at all the RV Parks here. It is work but fun being a vendor and meeting so many other vendors. I have an Arizona Food Handlers Certificate as I am selling Peanut Brittle and variety of cookies and other sweets, including my home made blackberry jam that I handpicked from N. California. This keeps me busy which I prefer and love baking and cooking but I DO NOT test or eat any of it I have made these things for years and don’t eat or taste–I am still Carnivore sometimes Ketovore -some cheese but under 8 carbs a day at the most. Bill too!

Other updates: we just got our two Captain chairs reupholstered and were put back in our coach.  They look fantastic. Bill had some electrical hook up for the chairs but so happy to finally have this done.  Hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2024!

We had a few good hours in this huge park. We only touched a part of these 3,422,024 acres of this park. When we left Beatty NV the temperature was 50 degrees. In the National park three hours  later the temperature was 82 degrees. This location is thought to be the hottest place on Earth during the summer. The location is located in Eastern California in the northern Mojave Desert. We can mark Death Valley National Park down on our list of visited National Parks.

Lake Tahoe has rocky coves, shady forested areas and panoramic lake views. We enjoyed our drive there and the beauty that surrounded us. Lake Tahoe is the largest freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada and the largest alpine lake in North America. The deepest part of the lake is 1,645 feet making it second-deepest in the US after Crater Lake in Oregon.

We spent a month in this beautiful area of Northern California. HWY 101 has spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. This highway has better air, and beautiful and natural surroundings with over looking cliffs. The road narrows to two lanes in either direction.

One of favorite parts of this round the US trip was visiting the beautiful Redwood National and State Parks. The towering trees left us breathless. We were fortunate the large Smith Forest Fire was still thirty miles away and did not interfere with our trip.

A fun day at the Mystery of Trees was well worth it on a very sunny and pleasant day.

Instead of focusing on our Northwest US travel we found it important to share our life changing experiences the last few months.
We both learned so much the last 6 months. Started with Keto then adhered to a Carnivore Diet. A Carnivore diet includes BBBE-beef, bacon, butter and eggs.

There’s really nothing special about this transformation. We simply adhered to the proper human diet, focusing on what’s right for our species, and now we look and feel like natural humans. We have been following the #CarnivoreDiet, and people often ask about LDL and cholesterol, but they should be more concerned with metabolic health. Poor metabolic health makes you 6X more likely to suffer heart disease compared to poor LDL.

Look around, and you’ll notice that many suffer from poor metabolic health, yet few are concerned about it. Besides the weight loss,we feel 100x better. We both have kicked high chloesteral meaning no more statin drugs. No more BP meds and so many positive things with our good health now.  We feel like  natural human beings, free from aches, pains, and arthritis. We both are on no medications as that was in the past with our terrible carb filled diets.

Everyone deserves to feel as good as we do, free from inflammation. If you observed animals in the wild, like a deer, you would never see them suffer from human-like health problems. However, visit a grocery store, and you’ll see these conditions in nearly every person. If we fed animals our diet, they’d suffer too. Humans, and our poor pets, are the only species that eat outside of our species-intended foods, and yet we have the most health issues despite our big brains.

We’ve normalized poisoning ourselves with sugar, processed foods, and garbage, resulting in widespread sickness, fatigue, and heart disease, the number one killer. While it may be a new normal, it’s not natural. Bill lost 30lbs-15% of BMI. Liz lost 25lbs-18% of BMI. Visit our sons channel to learn more about my journey to becoming a natural human…https://youtube.com/@Homesteadhow
Another excellent source of learning more is Dr. Ken Berry, MD (saved many lives)
He has many YouTube videos.
