After leaving Wisconsin late summer we headed north to Upper Michigan and experienced Mackinac Island. After weeks in that location we headed south and ended up in Shipshewana Indiania. This is now on the top of our list of favorite destinations. This location showcases the history of Amish and Mennonite peoples. This is the location of the Midwest’s largest Flea Market with over 700 vendors. As I started vending with the Peanut Brittle we named our small business Divine Treats. We will be spending Summer is Shipshewana and two days a week selling our Peanut and Cashew Brittle.

We had a terrible mishap with our car that it was not worth fixing as it cost more than the value of the vehicle. We love our new to us 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz. Its like half car half truck. We have never got so many comments from strangers how they love that vehicle.

We also are coming up with our two year anniversary on the Carnivore way of eating. Bill kept his 45 lbs off and me the 35lbs off. Not just weight loss but our past medications-blood pressure, statins and so many others are past medications we no longer take. We are dedicated to have best health possible and we love to feel full of energy and no more brain fog.

I started off last winter in Arizona asked by others to sell Peanut Brittle. I have been making this candy for decades. Now I added Cashew Brittle and being a vendor here in Yuma it not only keeps me busy, but I enjoy the markets and other vendors. Now word is out and two to three times a week I am working either inside a building or under our canopy and banner. Divine Treats is becoming a name here in Yuma. Being on a ketogenic/Carnivore diet this is not hard making a sugar treat as I make it and not eat it. The outdoor markets we both work the booth as it takes quite a long time to set up and Bill is awesome with customers.

The get together at Kerry and Jen’s home for 4th of July was nice but went by too fast. It was over a year since we were back in Wisconsin. We both did a livestream Carnivore on Youtube being interviewed by Kerry.

We continued north to the Oshkosh area and enjoyed meeting friends from our old church in Appleton. We took a nice drive to Jackson to see a nephew and wife. We continued north to Marinette. From there we went to Northern Michigan to Manistique.

Sovenir shops are located in the downtown and through halls and different stores we found many assorted items. It is fun to barter and we got incredible prices. Before we started our Carnivore way of eating we visited many restaurants in Los Algodones. The Mexican food is fabulous and many foreigners are seen sitting in the outdoor restaurants. Music, food, and many vendors on every corner. 

One of favorite parts of this round the US trip was visiting the beautiful Redwood National and State Parks. The towering trees left us breathless. We were fortunate the large Smith Forest Fire was still thirty miles away and did not interfere with our trip.

A fun day at the Mystery of Trees was well worth it on a very sunny and pleasant day.

Rock House is unique in the Hocking Hills’ region, as it is the only true cave in the park. It is a tunnel-like corridor situated midway up a 150-foot cliff of Blackhand sandstone.This House of Rock has a ceiling 25 feet high while the main corridor is 200 feet long and 20 to 30 feet wide. The cavern was eroded out of the middle zone of the Blackhand sandstone. The resistant upper zone forms the roof and the lower zone forms the floor. Water leaking through a horizontal joint running parallel to the cliff face caused the hollowing of the corridor. This main joint or crack is very visible in the ceiling of the Rock House. A small series of joints run north to south at right angles to the main joint. Enlargement of this series of joints formed the window-like openings of Rock House.

Nature has hewn out of this cliff the Rock House complete with seven Gothic-arched windows and great sandstone columns which bear its massive roof. As one might imagine, Rock house was used for shelter by past visitors. Hominy holes, small recesses in the rear wall of Rock House, served as baking ovens for Native Americans using the cave. By building a fire in the small recesses, the rock became heated on all sides, and food could be bakes in this crude manner. Further evidence of past use is the presence of chiseled out troughs or holding tanks found in the stone floor. When rainfall is abundant, springs of water permeate through the porous sandstone and flow into these troughs fashioned by man and, when full, continue across the floor and out of the windows. In this way, residents were able to maintain a small water supply in Rock House. According to local folklore, other not so welcome visitors frequented Rock House. Robbers, horse thieves, murderers and even bootleggers earned Rock House its reputation as Robbers Roost.

A large semi convoy made its way through New Mexico. In Deming NM we attended a rally on the BRIDGE TO NO WHERE. It was awesome joining other patriotic people.

A BIT OF HISTORY:

Yuma began to experience the American westward surge when countless immigrants crossed by ferry from Yuma on their way to the California gold fields in 1849. In 1850, a military post was established at Yuma, and when rich placer gold strikes on the Colorado River precipitated a gold rush in 1858, Yuma experienced a boom. In 1871 Yuma incorporated and became the county seat of Yuma County.

The Territorial Prison was authorized by the Legislature in 1875 and $25,000 was budgeted for the project. Ground was broken on April 28, 1876, and some of the prisoners were pressed into service to build their cells. The first seven inmates moved into the facility on July 1, 1876. The Prison held a variety of law violators, including the legendary stagecoach robber Pearl Hart. The Prison continued in operation for 33 years when, due to overcrowding, all inmates were moved to a new facility in Florence, Arizona.
